careering round the strce's the scared
quadruped waf broubht to a standstill.
The horse, whi:h had boen attached to a
spring dray, had been startled in the rail.

ST. MARY'S, AUd . 15.
The men working under Mr Robinson
(Government overseer) had their camp
broken into recently during their absence
and several articles of value stolen, and
al:o the sum of 301 belonging to Mr
Robinson. An arreet was made on sus
pii .n, but sufficient evidence was not
forthco?ming to secure a conviction. A few
weeks since some men working on the
Scamander road were similarly victimised,
I trust the police will be successful in
bringing to juet:ce these lazy s oundrels,
who would live by the industry of honest
people.
A suitable locality has been selected for
the proposed Grnoral O.metery, and steps
will shortly be taken to secure the land.
The welther has been exceptionally mild
and dry for the past two or thbee months.
At present a warm rain is fdlliog, and
there is every indication of an early spring.
I noticed a wattle tree in bloom at Four
mile Creek, near Falmoath, as early as
July 12 last, the eal est I have known in
TasmEnia.
