RALLY OF ADELAIDE.
|Sj.EirrLEMEN— It having been intimated
\X to me that a place adapted to the purposes of an EX
CHANGE and GENERAL READING-ROOM has become a
requirement, I have determined, should the project and ar
rangements meet your approval, to devote the Urge room ad
jacent to the Bank of Australasia to such a purpose on and
after the 1st proximo.
So soon as circumstances will permit, it is my intention to
provide a room and building every way worthy of the advanced
wsition of the colony.
In the meantime I would solicit your indulgence in matters
which must of necessity offer difficulties in the first carrying
through such an undertaking : I allude more particularly to
the supply of English newspapers. AH arrangement* bearing
on the comfort or convenience of Subscribers shall receive the
earliest possible attention. The terms I would propose are as
follow :-
ANNUAL SUBSCRIPTIONS:
(Payable Half-yearly in advance)—
Mercantile Firms ... Three Guineas each.
Individuate ? Two Guineas each.
Masters of Vessels to be considered Honorary Members, and
Subscribers to be privileged to introduce Strangers, all parties
so introduced to have the entrie of the room for one calendar
month.
In conclusion, I would beg to call special attention to the
ouly reservation I am desirous of making, namely, that save
and except the 17th day of June next, on which date a sale is
advertised, the only days on which the room would be required
for such a purpose would be the first Friday in each month,
upon which days the Subscribers would be entitled to the re
quisite accommodation in the offices fronting on to King
William-street
GEORGE GREEN, King William-street
May 27th, 1853.
NOTICE.
On further consideration I have determined to throw the
above room open on and after this date, Monday, the 30th, and
on Wednesday, June 1st, the Secretary will be prepared to
receive the half-yearly Subscriptions, dating up to January 1st,
1854.
' G. GREEN.
EXCHANGE-ROOM,
ADJACENT TO THE BANK OF AU8TBALASIA.
HHHE above is now OPEN daily to Sub
JL scribers from 9 till 5 o'clock. All the LOCAL Newspapers
can be perused; also, as far as possible, English and Foreign.

THE ADELAIDE EXCHANGE.
IN consequence of the determination of
Messrs. Samson, Wicksteed, and Co. to appropriate the
premises hitherto used as the Adelaide Exchange to the par
poses of Auction Salerooms after the 30th June, it has been
felt by the Subscribers, that it is highly desirable that some
other building should be appropriated to that object, in which
the merchants and traders of the province may assemble to
read the newspapers, write their letters, and transact the gene
ral business of the colony as heretofore.
To commercial men resident in Adelaide, as well as to
captains arriving in the province from time to time, the utility
of the Exchange has boen so strougly felt, and so fully acknow
ledged, that its continuation in now deemed a matter of neces
sity. To meet this want the undersigned begs to inform his
friends and the public that he has taken the premises lately1
occupied as tho Adelaide Times printing-office, in order to con
tinue the Exchange in tho old loca'ity in King William-street
The new site will be a few steps uearer to the two principal
Banks of the colony than the old one, and in close proximity to
the Chamber of Commerce, tho Railway Board, and the proposed
Railway Terminus; the general arrangements will be tho same
as before, with this difference only, that as the new premises
will not at any time 1m used for any purposes but the avowed
ones, the comfort and convenience of tho subscribers will be
more certainly secured. The files of newspapers, and the
various documents ot reference belonging to the old Exchange,
will be given by Mr. J. B. Neales for the use of the new one.
Subscription for Firms, Two Guineas, and for individual
Members, One Guinea, half-yearly, payable in advance.
Apply to T. B. BARNARD,
. Auction Mart Portico.
N.B.— Shipmasters and visitors will be fr.se for the usual
period!
