COMMERCIAL.
The Australaisan Mortgage and Agency Com
pany, in their monthly report, state that the
market in regard to wool has not been brisk
throughout the past four weeks~, and the
monthly oddment sales have been smaller than
usual. As far as the quotations for abeepskins
are concerned, there is no naltration to re Irt,
a slight improvemlent being ntoticean', in
respect of eskis sold at per piece causaa , y the
increased growth of staple. Qotaetine are
Lambs, Is Gd to 2s ad each ; and skie. I2 to 4a
each. Dry r?ins sell readily at late rates. vir.:
I'd to 3d per lb for abort qualities, and Iup to
d4id and 5lid per lb for best cross.breds and
Mlerinos respectively. Ilides--Fallowing up
the duiness last reported, this marlkot almlost
collapsod during the middle of the month, and
dry hides were exceptionally difficult to quit,
while large reductions had to be ancepted for
green sorts. We have sold during the latter
end of the monllth fair catalogues at the follow
ing rates:-Victorian salted, average weights.
3d to 821 pr Itb; heavies, to 3~l per lb ; Vi.c
torian salted kip at 20d per li ; Victorian
salted calf, heavy, to 4?1 per lb ; light to Gd
per lb. New Zealand lides, prime heavier, at
.I1d per lI ; butchers' green ox have been sold
at from 13s to 17a Gd ; for light to ordinaly, 18s
to 21s Ud; for good to heavy, and extra, 22* to
25a each ; cows, 2.d par Ih; extra heavy, 2j:d
per lb. Bark is a little easier, with the excep
tion of prino known braido of iground, which
we still quote at £10 2s Gd per ton, in shipping
parcels. For local use bundled is worth £5 to
£7 per ton; cholpped, to £8 10s per ton ; and
ordinary to superior ground, £8 10s to £9 10s
per ton.
W. T. BELL AND Co.'s PRODUCE REPORT.
W. T. Bell.and Co. report-At their wool and
produce stores. Cameron-street, a very
native business doing in general produce. Grass
seeds have had more enquiry, and as the rain
has enabled farmers to get on well in the dryer
districts with pluglhing a further demand is
expected during the coming wook. Cocksfoot
is much preferred this year, and considerable
quantities have been sold. Oats have also been
in demand, and prices are very firm at current
rates. Shoepakine were a sande lower to-day
owing chiefly to the wet weather prevenoting
the fellmnongers drying their wool. We, how
over, obtained top plricoas for the fresh
slaughtered shins, which realised--P'. skins, 3s
ld ; let lambs, 2 li0d ; 2d lambs, is 9d ; let
pelts, 2s bd ; u elts, ls 9d. Thlea prices
are on the whole abhore last week's rates. Dry
country skins fetched-let pelts, is 9d ; 2nad
ditto, Is ld ; 3rd ditto, 6I ; crossbrads, let,
n 2ld ; 2nd, ls 9d ; 3rd. Is d ; pelts, Sid, %d,
2I. For theo first time for some months we
had no wool to offer. Prices are, however,
firm, and the te,,doney is to higlher rates.
Dairy produce.-Potted butter is in groat .e
mnand, and we are selling at top prices freely.
We qluote for primo Tasmanian is 3d for brst
quality, for fair ls 2.1 tola lid ; pastry aorta
lower. We hare had some splendid quality New
Zalaind butter, which has been greatly applrovred
of, and hlas sold readily at Ia 3d and Is 2d per
lb. We are informed that a further hilpmcht
of this butter from the Christchurolch district
will arrive on WYednesday. It i1 very fortunate
for consumers here that we have been able to
draw supplies from this country, as prices would
have realohed a famino rate before now. Thei
quality a:d Ilavour is remally very good, leaving
nothilng to bo doiiired. We are still btainitng
ls 8d for primn Do Laval butter in crooks.
Eggs 2e, demand not so great as it was. Eggs.
cured in lime, Is; these are of fair quality, and
suitable for pastry purposes. Bacon is selling
freely. Leekhart's. 8id; and with hama,
attached, 9dd: best country cured, 8d; hams,
83d to 9d. Honey-We have again to chronicle
a good enquiry, but none in stock. ChOees has
been moving off free this week in good parcels
at top rates; all our best brands have been
advanced to 8d, and others not so well known
7d and GCid. Grain--Ots are still moving off
for seed and feed purposes at 3n to 3 6.1 for
fprimo bright seed. WeVo should be glad to
receiveo further supplies, as our stocks arc almosat
cleared out, the demand being very-brisk.

same level, any falling off in local supplies
being balanced by impoatations. The demand
for good sheep has been extremely brisk
throughout the week, and at all country sales
prices have roeached tlhe highest point of tilhe

good demand, and sales were made on
