WILGA.
A concert and dance were held in the
local public hall on the 8th inst, in aid
of the widow and family of thc late Mr.
Wynne, better known aa Jimmy Riley. The
promoters were the sleeper hewers at Pres-
ton's Camp, near Frank's Well, and their
efforts were ably seconded by the other
sleeper hewers in the district and the resi-
dents of Wilga. The hall was beautifully
decorated for thc occasion. Mr. J. Matthews
filled the chair, and after referring
briefly to the mauy excellent qualities of
the deceased, and thanking the audience
for their attendance, he introduced the
programme, which was varied and enter-
taining, consisting of vocal solos by Mes-
dames Millar and Harper and Miss Thrum;
pianoforte solos by Miss Preston, a vocal
duet by Mr. and Mrs. E. Shepherdson, and
vocal solos by Messrs. T. Hurst, G. Brooks,
P. McDonald, and Joe O'Keefe, and re
citations by Messrs., H. Evans. C. Lode,
and Joo O'Keefe. The musical accompan-
ists were the Misses Thrum and Preston,
Mrs. E. Shepherdson, and Mr. W. Scott.
Every item on the programme was encored,
and a more successful concert was never
held at Wilga. The dance which followed
was also largely attended and proved de-
cidedly enjoyable. The musician was Mr.
Windford. During an interval refresh-
meuts were served by the ladies. A meet-
ing of the committee was held on the 13th
inst., when the secretary (Mr. M. O'Keefe)
presented a balance-sheet, which showed a
net profit of £21 ls.
