Points on "Slimming."
Owing to pressure of space, some rules
for "slimmers" and also diet to be follow-
ed in conjunction with exercises, were
crowded out of the last issue. So I suppose
you have all been enjoying huge meals, and
plenty of cakes and sweets for the last
glorious week. Now you have to get down
to it in earnest-do without those things
which are fatteuinjr, even though they are
nice. Why, I have just given up cigarettes,
and I am sure that is much harder than
going without chocolates and the like.
Of course you will use a certain amount
of discretion when following these rules.
Those who are only a little bit plump can
carry on more or less as previously and the
exercising will do the rest, but those who
have quite a lot of condition to lose should
stick as close as possible to the rules.
Sn lisrp a JV» the rules, which, if
followed to the letter, will bring de-
sirable results. Many, I know, will
skip those exercises which are irksome,
but their reward, in consequence, will be
proportionately less.
Rise sn hour or so earlier in the morn-
ing and begin the exercises shown in this
article. Walk to your place of employ-
ment if you have time. If circumstances
do not permit you to exercise in the morn-
ing, arrange it at some other time during
the day. Finish up with a hot bath or
shower, followed by a cold shower.
. Delete white bread from your menu and
substitute wholemeal. Make sure that
your baker can supply the genuine whole-
meal. Very few can, but thae are one or
two Perth firms who make the real article.
Eat three fairly substantial meals a day-If
you feel hungry. It will do you good to
miss a meal or two occasionally if your
appetite is not what it should be. Avoid
all fried and fatty foods, pastries, 6weete,
and preserves.
The following is a list of non-fattening
foods. It would be a wise plan to in

elude these in your meals rather than
starve yourself altogether: -

Fruits: Oranges, apples, berries, and all

acid fruits.

Vegetables: Asparagus, tomatoes,
spinach, cabbage, Brussels .«prouts.

Grains: Small quantities of bran or
wholemeal bread, oatmeal, and breakfast
cereals.

Salads: Lettuce. watercress, celery,
radishes, onions, tomatoes.

Thin soups.

Fish: Gillied or boiled.

» Meats: Lean beef, lamb, chicken, tur-
key.

Desserts: Fresh fruit, stewed rhubarb,
baked apple, fruit pies unsweetened.

DO NOT eat between meals.

Dancing Ls a good exercise, and should
be indulged in, providing discretion is used
as regards late hours. Sweets and choco-
lates are taboo.
