THE SOCIAL WORLD.
EVENTS OF THE WEEK.
ADVERTISING ARTS BALL.
The Embassy Cabaret presented an ani-
mated and colourful scene on Friday when
the Advertising Arts Ball took place there.
Over 1,000 people were present. The de-
corations in the cabaret were most strik-
ing. Rainbow-tinted strands, of gauze ar-
ranged in geometrical and lattice designs
composed a transparent canopy. Round
the balconies were arranged advertise-
ments of all descriptions, and the artistic
gold lights shed a radiance over the scene.
The lounge was decorated with a maze
of miniature streamers of vivid hue, with
multi-coloured balloons and other paper
decorations lending a fairyland touch. Off
the lounge was arranged an ''Ad-Venture
Sample Store" from which during the even-
ing the ladies were presented with packets
of samples. A small booklet entitled the
"Ad-Venture" was distributed. Sheridan's
Embassy orchestra supplied the music, and
supper was served in the garage below the
cabaret on flower-decked tables. The whole
assembly sat down to supper at the one
time and the scene there was then a very
gay one.
The committee responsible for all ar-
rangements and to whom the great success
of the function was due included Messrs.
A. Clementson (president of the Institute
of Advertising), W. Jones (treasurer).
Baron H. Solomon (organiser), Donald
Tozer (secretary), E. Harvey, Casellas,
Simpson, Gellie, Austin, Swaine, Daniels,
McAlinden, and Hick. The proceedings
were opened by a prologue spoken by Mr.
Fred Moore, followed by a ballet. Other
special turns of the evening were given by
the Biscuit Boys ballet (Mills and Wares),
the Relax Soap ballet (Westralian Soap),
by the Linden Boys, and a Lavender ballet
(Mitcham Lavender), in which dainty
lavender-frocked ballet girls emerged from
a big lavender basket, and sweet lavender
perfume was lavishly sprayed from the
balconies until the atmosphere was frag-
rant with it. The success of this, and the
other ballets was due to the work of Mr.
E. Lashbrooke, who conducted them, and
they certainly added to the pleasure of
the proceedings.
