BOOK ON AILMENTS OF HORSES.
"CC," Three Springs, writes :-I would
be very grateful if you could tell me j
where it is possible to buy a thorough .
good practical book written on the ail-
ments of horses. The book I require is !
one that would explain all the different
ailments which horses are subject to, and
which also gives the directions of liow
. to treat the. sickness. Answer this
through the Mutual Help Column, as I
am a constaut reader of same. You
might also state thc price of the best to
be had."
Mr. J. L. Burns, V.S., Stock Department,
Fremantle, in reply to the question states
that it is very difficult to recommend a book
of this tort. There are plenty of books on
the horse of a technical nature, but on this
account they would not suit a layman. Un-
less a person has some knowledge of anat-
omy, physioi3gy pathology, and chemistry
I am afraid any book, however simple,
would often mislead. Mistakes in diagnosis
are so easily made, even by those most
qualified, and it takes a lifetime to learn
even n little about anything. Things are so
complicated and so mysterious. I am some-
times given to doubt whether the man is
. ye1, born clever enough tc¿ pïiysip a child.
However, if a book must be had try "Home
Doctoring,'" by Harold Lccncy. I am un
I able to say wbai the price is, 'but any of
the well-known booksellers in Perth' could
supply fhe information, and perhaps be able
to recommend other literature on the mat-
ter in question.
