Opening Of New Premises
Next Month
BOARD TO SIT HERE FOR
FIRST TIME
The opening ceremony in connection
with the Commonwealth Bank's new
premises in King William street will be
performed next month, when a meet-
ing of the board of directors of the
Commonwealth Bank of Australia -will
be held in Adelaide. The date fixed
£ or. the meeting is March 18. and it win
be the first occasion on which the board -
has met in Adelaide.
When the transfer of banking opera
tions to the new building has taken
place, the rear portion of the building
will be remodelled. In the basement
accommodation has been made lor
strong rooms. The main banking hall
on thejground floor will be approached

lofty portico, with steps between cen
tral columns. The steps the bases ol
the column, and the floor of the por
tico are carried out to Swanport red
granite whfch is also used for the base
of the building.
At the main entrance Is a bronze
sliding gnll, running into slots in the
wall on either side of the entrance. In
side the main doors Is the entrance
foyer and. steps, the floor and steps
being earned out in terrazzo On
Oie two walls of the foyer, marble
dadoes have been fitted, the base and
top being of New South Wales marble
and the panels of Angaston mqriflp
On the. top of these steps is the vesti
bule, with approaches to the offices of
the accountant and superintendent oT

Modern -Equipment
Queensland walnut counters, with
bronze screens and plate glass panels,
have been installed in the halL Ona
mezzanine floor additional banking ac
commodation will be available. The
flooring of the public hnii is covered
with diamond-shaped rubber tiles in
two colors. A modern passenger lift is
provided, and between toTbasement
and the ground floor a bullion lift has
been installed. A mechanical air con
ditioning system also has been installed,
by which hot air can be suppUedin the
winter and cool air in the summer The
building has been fitted jrith thermo
stat fire alarms, which will be con
nected to the Metropolitan Fire Sta
tion.
Work on the new premises has beisi
done by the Works and Services
Branch of the Department of the In
terior, and under the supervision of ?ie
Commonwealth Works Director <Mr. H.
M. Holland).
