Social to Tpr. Rol.
Dare at Mt. Bryan
East
The Mt. Bryan East Church
was not large enough to accom
modate the large crowd that
attended the welcome home to
Tpr. Rol Dare on Saturday
night, January i6tb. Visitors
were present from Adelaide, Mt
Bryan, Hallett and Willalo,
which in itself shows the es
teem in which Rol. is held. Mr
Lewis Gare was chairman.
Large bowls of choice flowers
.decorated the Church as well as
patriotic flags.
The proceedings opened with
the National Anthem, the Song
of Australia and God Bless Our
Men.
Mrs. JTank Jeffenes then
played the overture. Glerida
Gare recited 'Jimmy's Birth
day Party.' - Rev. Rex. Brook
in his own words which he illus
trated with a little story en
titled 'He didn't feel up to the
Occasion.' Rols youngest sis
ter, Carmen, recited 'Where's
Mum.' Mr. Frank Jeffenes
sang one of the latest song hits
'Home Again to Dear Old Aus
sie,' the audience joining in
the chorus. Mrs. E. S. Wilks'
elocutionary number 'Barbara
Freechia?' followed.
Mr. Kitch~ Miller, Knight
Commander of the Hallett OK's
spoke words of welcome on be
half of that Order, of which
Rcl. is a member.
Mrs. Roland Nutt, of Hallett,
sang 'Trust and Believe' and
Mr. Keith Gare's 'There'll Al
ways be an England,' The
next item was a duet by Mrs.
Nutt and Mr. Jefferies, 'The
Perfect Day,' and June Maxted
recited. Mr. F. Jefferies then
sang 'My Old Shako.'
Mr. Ben Dunstan spoke and
apologised for Mrs. Dunstan's
absence. Mrs. Maxted on be

rades added words of welcome
home, at the same time apolo
gising for the absence of Mr.
Maxted who was indisposed.
? At the chairman's request,
Rol. came on to the stage when
'For He's a Jolly Good Fellow' i
was sung and three hearty I
cheers given. i

same time he praised the nurs
ing staffs of the Military Hos- !
pifcals and said he was sure that !
but for their wonderful atten- :
tion many more of the soldiers
would not again see their native
lands. In his closing' remarks -

dear old Aussie, and thanked :
the folk for the welcome home
social tendered him. That
completed that portion of the
programme. Topics of the day
etc. were then discussed by the
many present. Parlour games
were enjoyed whilst the ladies
prepared supper. A hand
round supper was served, the
liquid refreshment being &
choice of either tea or coffee.
A small charge of 6d. each for
supper netted the nice sum of
£2/5/3. which goes towards
?local Red Cross Funds.
Rol, who had a fortnight's
leave, will go back at the end of
this week to get his artificial
foot.
