Government
Opposition Aid To
Resolve Strikes
BRISBANE, July 4.
Leaders of Opposition Par- <*>
liamentary Parties have made
a strong demand that Parlia- <*>
ment be called together to-meet
the present industrial crisis in
Queensland. j
The Leader of the Queensland:
People's Party (Mr. Bruce Pie>i
said—
"If the Premier (Mr. Hanloni:
will not. call Parliament together/
he should call a conference of his
Cabinet and nominate members ot
the Opposition so that they, as
representatives of the people, might
give the Government the benefit
of their advice and help in the pre-.
sent conflict and. free from poll-'
tical party thought, share some of
the responsibility of any strong ac
tion necessary to end this Indus-!
trial anarchy." j

Brisbane is losing much of the
good humor apparent in the early
days of the strike. i
With still further cuts in its al-{
ready depleted transport system
and no week-end suburban trains
and no trams on Saturday after
noon or Sunday, the public is be
ginning to feel the pinch and Is
not liking the feel.
Most secret ballot papers have
now been sent out to members of
the deregistered meat employes'
union by the Industrial Registrar.
The ballot will close on July 10.
Although no official declaration
of ooal stocks has been made, it is
rumored that Brisbane cannot last
more than a week with the present
restrictions. Furthar cuts may be
necessary in lighting and power I
rations. I
