FIRST PICTURES OF UNEXPLORED CAVES ON NULLARBOR PLAIN
DURING THE FIRST air expedition in search of unexplored caves on the Nullarbor Plain, 32 uncharted caves were found in ten
days, and Captain J. Maitland Thomson secured a number of interesting photographs, the first of which are published above. TOP
LEFT—At the bottom of one of the Murrawidginnie caves, showing members of the party 100 feet underground. CENTRE—
Looking back towards the centre chamber from the eastern channel in the Koonalda Cave. The light from the party's camp, 340
feet underground, can be seen in the centre. RIGHT —"Tombstones" in the Graveyard Cave. Stalactites and stalagmites of all
sizes and colors were found in many of the caves.
