OBITUARY
Mr. James Kernich, of Hindmarsh,
died at his home in Romford street,
West Hindmarsh. on Sunday, at the
age of 69. He went to Hindmarsh from
WUlunga as a young man, and took
up business as a grocer and clothier at
First street, Brompton. Later when
bK business expanded, be moved to
the Port road, and in a few years built
the largest shop in the district. He
was lay preacher on the Methodist
circuit, and about 25 years ago
founded the Coglin street Brompton
Mission, which he and his family have
conducted since. He was a temper
ance advocate, and as a justice of the
peace sat on the bench of the Hind
marsh Magistrates' Court. He left a
widow, two sons and six daughters.
Mrs. Elisabeth Ann Reed, who had
been residing with her daughter (Mrs.
T. E. Pedler), Robert street, Moonta,
for some years, died on August 31 at
the age of 75 years. She had been an
invalid since 1927, and had resided in
the Moonta district for many years.
Mrs. Reed was born at Pendeen, Corn
wall, and came to South Australia
with her mother and brother in the
ship Oaklands. On arriving at Moonta
they took up their abode at Yelta.
They later removed to East Moonta.
Fifty years ago she married Mr. J.
Reed, who died some years ago. There
are left two daughters, Mesdames H.
Mudge (Croydon) and T. F. Pedler
(Moonta), and one son, Mr. J. Reed
(East Moonta), and several grand
children.
