McKAY DEFEATED, -
A FIGHTING FINISH :
Troon, My 25.
The. third Australian to reach the
third round, McKay, went down in
s fighting finish, which was wit
nessed by aa great crowd of .sup
porters of the Scottish golfer. The ,
Australian won the first with a par
four and was two up at the third,
where Reynard was stymied. The I
fourth was halved. McKay, at the
short fifth, put his tee shot two and
a half yards from the hole, but
missed the putt and holed out in
three. Reynard won 'the sixth,
owing to an overpitch by McKay.
The seventh was halved. McKay
won the eighth and turned two up.
The golf was brilliant despite the
Australian's tendency to hook his
drives. This was partly responsible
for the loss of the next three holes.
McKay got a capital four at the
thirteenth and squared the match
but drove into, the rough at the
14th again and was one down. lie
squared at the 15th but was again
la the rough at the 16th. His chip
shot from the edge of the green
rimmed the hole and jumped out..
Reynald won with a "birdie" four.
McKay, at the short 17th, the
"postage stamp" hole, hit a beauty;
within three yards of the hole. HL
again squared, but was bunkered ai??
the 18th, which Reynard won with a
p-ar four.
