GOVERNMENT CHEMIST
GETS MORE WORhK IN
ENGLAND
London, Oct. 17.
The report of the Government
chemist for-tthe year ended March
last reveals the ways in which de
velopments in the agricultural
marketing policy have multiplied
the work of the department.
Grading and marketing regula
tions for Stilton, Caerphilly,
Cheshire and Cheddar cheese have
resulted in the examination of some
223 samples by the laboratory. Even
the advent of "National Mark"
watercress has brought extra work
because water from the beds has had
to be examined chemically and bac
teriologically. The total number of
samples examined last year amount
ed to 546,279---an increase'of 23,491.
