HOYTS REGENT THEATRE.
'Good News.'
'Good News,' the film version of the
celebrated musical comedy stage success,
in which Elsie Prince delighted Austral
asians recently, will be shown at the
Regent Theatre to-morrow. Made by
Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer,, it is one of the
most elaborate talkies which has been pre
sented on the screen to date, and is one
of the fastest comedies of college life.
With an all-star juvenile cast, featuring
the pretty and talented favourites, Lola
Lane and Mary Lawlor, supported by the
popular Stanley Smith, this picture is in
every sense a screen event. Proof of its
success can be found in the fact that
Be«sie Love, Gus Shy and 'Ukulele Ike'
(Ciiff Edwards) share the leading comedy
honours. Beautiful girls, merry and reck
less boys, full 'of rollicking fun, all com
bine to make 'Good News' a bright, at
tractive and colourful show. The chorus in
the many amazing dance numbers is ac
claimed by critics as the best ever wit
nessed, either on the stage or on the Ecreen.
'The Best Things in Life Are Free' and
'Good News' are among other popular eong
hits that are featured, and, interspersed in
all the hilarious jollification and spectacu
lar dancing, are some really dramatic mo
ments, touches of pathos and sweet ro
mance.
The second attraction is Pathe's comedy
drama 'Night Work,' starring Eddie
§uillan. This picture k perhaps Eddie
uillan'e best, and is in ' every respect a
worthy successor to 'The Sophomore,'
which enjoyed such popularity at the Re
gent some months ago. In 'Night Work'
this comedy star has the role of a window
dresser in a department store, one that
admirably fits his personality, affording
'him many opportunities for creating laughs.
The supporting cast includes Sally Starr
and Frances Upton, late of the Ziegfeld
Follies, and 28 others all well-known on
the screen. Supporting interludes include
Fox Movietone news and Australasian'
Bound topical items, while at the' Wur
litzer organ James Miller and Mignon Jago
present their usual high grade organ in
terludes. Box plans are at the theatre, or
seats may be reserved by 'phoning B1945
or B1946.
