THE WANTS OF COOLGARDIE.
To TH« EDITOR.
SIB,-Coolgardie is the last opened reefing
field-a plaoo with a magnificent future before
it, and «bowing promise of becoming one of
the largest and riohest mining centres on the
known earth, sbonld command the beat atten-
tion of nowepaper men and not be left, aa it
ie, to snob miserable writers aa your hnmble
servant. We want men of known ^oarnalistio
ability to ventilate ourTgrievances, make oar
wanta known and thoroughly report upon oar
vast and wondrous gold reefs. Itwonld be
interesting to go into our statietios. This
field bat been opined abent fifteen months.
How much has been received through ottji
Mining Office for leases, exemptions^ regie
Itrations, etc. What about tbe extra dutieB
on the aeoevsarieB of life? The present
iniquitous oharge made by the Water Depart»
ment, and many other ways and means em-
ployed by onr far-seeing Government to
pluck the t'other sido pigeon.
We-I <ch> the eeutimenta of a large
majority-would like to know what we get
in return for enr pounds, shillings and
pence. We form a part of the com
rauni»y, and our interests aro in West
em Australia. Wo came here to make
money and cottle in the country. By BO
doing we advance the interest« of the colony
generally. It dooB not inattor a brasa
farthing whether a man makes his pile and
clears or Bettles in Bunbury and grows san-
dalwood. It is* not in the power of man to
carry Western Australia away, and he cannot
carry away the reefs. Some of the gold will
leave this colony, some will remain, and the
Coolgardie goldfields will be working cen-'
furies henoe, when we are all mouldering iu
onr graves. Kindly pardon this abort digres-
sion, and allow me to continue. What have
we reoeived from the hands of onr Guber-
nativo Six? We have two polioemen
over a population of three thousand
or thereabouts; police station -ml; post
office - a small, canvas tent, officer
good enough, but. accommodation cheap
and nasty; telegraph-nil; water worse off
than last year; bosses ad nauaeum; work
men very few ; horses enough to run a line
of coaches ; boring postponed indefinitely.
Where are the inspectors P-and why are
Ministers paid by cbe people?
