FREMANTLE LUMPERS.
Stop-Work Meeting on Saturday.
A board of reference, with the Indus
trial Registrar (Mr. F. Walsh) as chair
man, agreed yesterday to an application
by the Fremantle Lumners' Union for
permission to hold a stop-work meeting on
Saturday morning. So an not to impede
the business of the Port a pick-up will be
held at D.30 a.m. on Saturday and continue
for an hour.
The meeting, which will commence at
7.45 a.m.t will be held in the Fremantle
Town Hall. The main business will be
the consideration of a notice of motion
that *'the Fremantle Lumpers' Union of
Workers withdraw any affiliation or asso
ciation with the Waterside Workers' Fede
ration of Australia.' If the discussion
takes longer than anticipated the meeting
will be adjourned at 9.30 a.m. and con
tinued at 10.30 a.m.
Domestic affaire have been unsettled in
the Lumpers' Union for some time. A
new method of collection of union du^s
decided upon by a majority of members
met with a hostile reception from another
section with the result that a summons
was taken out by the general secretary of
the Waterside Workers' Federatiori
against the Fremantle branch of the union
to compel it to observe the rules of the
union. The summons was to have come
before the Full Court of the Arbitration
Court on September 16. but it was post
poned iirjtil September 30. The Fre
mantle Lumpers* Union, claiming that it
is not affiliated with the Federal body.
