DEPUTATIONS.
THE PORT BROUGHTON JETTY.
A deputation, consisting of the Hon. C. Mann
(Attorney-General), Messrs. W. Dunn, M.P.,
and J. Darling, J.P., waited on the Commis- <*>
sioner of Public Works on Saturday, April 22,
with reference to the Pott Broughton Jetty.
The deputation pointed out that the
jetty was in very bad repair; in fact,
so bad- that In its present state the
use of large trueks had to be discontinued,
and produce had to be transhipped into lighter
trucks. It was also stated that eren if the
jetty wu strengthened it was still insufficient
for the wants of the district, and a new one
more in keeping with the extensive trade wa?
required; and as there was still about 409,000
bags of wheat yet to ship from the port,
the deputation wished to urge upon the
Commissioner the necessity of at ?nee pro
ceeding with the necessary alteration, even if
they were only of a temporary naturr, so that
shippers might hbs! away the bulk *f their
produce within the next three months. Sir.
Boueaut promised to deal with the question
of tenpMwr repaid at ones, bat he could not
promise to proceed with the erection of anew
jetty until after the arrival of the engineer
expected from England. The deputation then
withdrew.
