FASHION NOTES.
The only- brooches favoured 6y .the
fasMonable nowadays are of meda'Xion
type, and these are extremely effective
with modern- frocks when carefully plac
id. Miss Irene Vanbrugli has a uroocli
that attracts attention — a_ disc of blue
!-namel with the- royal initials. 'G. and
M.,' a tiny crown, ami ring edge set with
Jiamonfis — 'which was presented to her
uy King George and Queen Mary after
ii command performance. When- inter
viewed. Miss Vanbrugh was- wearing this
ral'ued jewel on the left side of her
bodice. A fob-like length of black rib
bpn ' hanging from it — foiOing the bril
liance of the stones sparkling _ in , their
aaure ? setting — provided a distinctive
trimming for a s-leeveless, perfectly plain
mandarin tunic of heavy white si5k worn
over, a short and narrow black silk
skirt.
Misti Vanbrugh's dressing . in 'His
House in. Orter,' aroused much admira
tion and considerable speculation as to
the frocks to )-e worn by her in subse
quent productions. It is a little un
fortunate for those who are perhaps
more interested: in frocks than sparkling
dialogue and amusing incident, that 'Mr.
Pim' |;ass«l by the Marden home with
iiis atrocious iwmiory. so early jn the
dn'y. Mis® Vanbrugli. as- Olivia, was' seen
in the one frock oniy. a dainty creation of
cream lace over a shell, pink crepe do
chene slip with a band of closely set
flowers of every shade of pink, finis-liin-g
the hem line. Over this was worn- an
overdress of ninon, cut to . form flow
ing ?'handkerchief' draperies, ihe whole

taffeta.
Barrie's delightful 'curtain-raiser.'
'The Twelve Pound Look,' provides op
portunity for the display of a magnificent
court dress, the like of which is- seldom
seen outside Buckingham Palace, of gold
and white brocade woven -in 'dose trac
eries resemblring Damascene work. The
beautiful fabric falls1 in- long straight
lines, and from the shoulders hangs the
court train of rich ivory satin bordered
