GLENELG CORPORATION.
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 27.
Present—The Mayor, Councillors Hinde, Jones,
Moncke, and [?]ight.
The MAYOR reported that the Bridge contract had
been completed, and a checque drawn in favour of James
completed, and cheque drawn in favor of James
Went for £17, the amount of the contract.
The Matob informed the Council that he had received
a copy sf a resolution passed by a moAHng of Ratepayers,
as fallows:—
"To His Worship the Mayor oC Glenelg
" At a meeting of ratepayers held in the schoolroom
at Glenelg, on Monday, the 16th February, 1853, it was
rwolved unanimously that, it being highly desirable tbat
a, echoolhouse and master's residence should be erected
or purchased, the Mayor be requested to convene a,
meeting of ths ratepayers to ?ii?/-n? a the propriety of
malting a special rate for the erection or purchase of a
achoolhouse and master's residence, assisted by a grant
from the Board of Education.

The Council resolved that, after the assessment shall
have been completed, and the usual rate of one "billing
in tho pound levied, tbe Council will take steps to ob
tain tile decision of the ratepayers on the question.
Uesolved, that the Valuator be required to send in the
new assessment forthwith, or the arrangement with him
will be cancelled.
The Collector reported rates collected sine? last
meeting to the amount of £15 18s. 6d.; and for the
licences of vehicles to the amount of £5 15s.
Beselved, that the late Surveyor, Mr. Hodges, be
requested to attend at the nort meeting, and explain
what has beoome of the timber and other materials
banded over to tue Corporation on the completion of the
Glenelg jetty. The Town Clerk to apply for a copy of
the account sent in to the Government!
Letter read from Mr. McDonald, offering tbe Pound
for £6 per annum from the let day of January, 388S, to
the 3Ut day of December, 1863. Three months' notice
on either side to terminate the arangemsnt. Accepted
Resolved, thai the Mayor arrange with Mr. Hyndman*
to take the necessary levels, select a site for a cnlvert in
the Adelaide-road, prepare' plan and specification for the
same.
Resolved, that tenders be called for at once for making
and metalling 18 feet, tabling and forming footpaths in
Partridge-street. No tender to be necessarily accepted.
The stone to be carted at once, and the toad to be
kept in repasr by the contractor for 12 months, 60 per
cent, to be paid en "nrfiRi-atj* as tne work proceeds, 25
more on completion of the road, and the remaining 25
per cent, on the road being handed over in good order at
the end of the 12 months.
Hesolved, that 300 yards ot good Glenelg stone be
advertised to be stacked on the roads where required. I
Beiolved, that the Town Clerk give notice in the
daily papers that legal procaedings will be taken against
all persons who have not paid tho rates due to the Col
lector at tho Town Clerk's office, Glenelg, by the 14tn I
day of March next.
