The New Ghairman of the Land Board.
Mn FINOr, the newly appointed Chairmnn
of the Goulbarn Lund Board satfor his first
time on the Local Board on Tuesday last,
and was welcomed by' Messrs J. J. Wright,.
and W..:eatty (mimbers of the Board),
and Mr H.'J. Jeffreys, the Local L%nd Agent
and C.P.S.
`Mr Wright said he had very great pleasure
in welcoming Mr Finch to Quoanbeyan, and
trusted that his visits to this town would be
as numerous as those of, his predecessor.
Although bewas not aequaiuted. wi Mr
Finch personally he knew him well by repute
and considered he would become a general
favourite in the Goulburn Land District, of.
which this was a part.
Mr Beatty endorsed the eulogistic express
ions of Mr Wright. He'had heaed that Mr
Finch, while Chairman of the Land Board
for 14 years in Orange, had wvon thie confi
dence of the-people, and this-with-other ac
connts he had heard of him he felt. certain
that, Mr Finch would gain the well-wishes of
all.
M. r Jeffreys regretted the absdoo: of the
members of the legal profession. On behalf
of the officers of the Court hb "had much
pleasure in welooiuing Mr-Finch to Quain
beyan. fEe-had the privelege of serving
undorl'Mr Finch before ;he 'was Land Agent
at Molong when Mr Finich 'had. under'. his'
charge tbat district. He felt certain that
the publio, and the officers willbe met with
overy jnstice.and consideration at the' ha 'de.
of'Mr Finch. 'Personally,' he felt, ple?sed to
renew their acquaintance, with a very old
friend.'
Mr Finch thanked ?essers Wright, Beatty
and effreys for their -warm -and kindly
welcome. He said he was only hot e tempor
arily; ponding'arrangements being made for
the appointment of a succeessor to his old
friend, Mr 13etts. - He felt it a difficult task
in comling to this important distric't to fill a
position, which had beon so ably filled by 'Mr
.Betts. He had always endeavoured to carry
out the dutioi falling to his lot with fairness,
juatico, and consid,,rationuto the public.
