LEADERS INTERVIEWED
MB. COLLIER OPTIMISTIC.
LEADER OF OPPOSITION HOPE-
FUL.
PERTH, March 27.
Interviewed to-night tho Premier (Mr.
P. Collier) said the returns, so far espe-
cially those in the metropolitan area,
seemed to augur increased majorities to
Government supporters as against those
ot three years ago. The victories of
Mr. Millington and Mr. Kenncally were
especially pleasing, since thoy won
where the opponents of Lubour expected
to score. Mr. Rowe, ut North-East Fre-
mantle, had demonstrated that it was
not "Mr Angwln's seat," but a Labour
seat, after all. Tho latest figures from
Yilgarn made it appear that Mr. Cor-
boy was pretty safe. »In thc agrlcul- I
taral districts Labour polled splendid-
ly
Summing up the whole position, with
tho inadequate figures and Information
available, lt seemed thal the result would
be very much the position of yesterday,
with, perhaps, an added Bout or two for
Lubour. The future now hinged largely
on tho four North-west seats, and he
was confident Labour would hold Its
two seats there, and have a good chance
of capturing tho other two. Of the
individual results, that which struck him
most forcibly was Sir James Mitchell's
squeezing In by thc narrow majority of
200 votes. Ho regarded lt as tho most
noteworthy performance of Labour In
tho whole, elections
SIR JAMES MITCHELL.
DICE LOADED AGAINST HIM.
Slr Jamos Mitchell, tho leader of thc
United party, said he was sorry Mr.
Scaddon did not win the Leederville seat
and that the party mlRsed Bunbury which
they should have won. He was still
hopeful that anti-Labour would have a
mujorlty when tho final figures went up.
"I think that in many ways the dice
were loaded against us." added Slr
James.
THE COUNTRY LEADER.
Mr. A. Thomson, the leader of thc
Country party, referred to the uncer-
tainty at Greenough and Yilgarn, and
said ho hoped both seats would bc
lost to Labour. It looked as If tho
Country party, os a party, was going to
Increase its members. Ho was confi-
dent that whatever the outcome In the
position of parties in the House he could
pledge the Country party to co-operate
harmoniously with all parties In the best
Interests of the State.
