LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.

After a lengthy debate the Public Works
Execution Bill passed all stages without
amendment, after a special appeal for the

made by the Honorary Minister, and at
11.10 p.m. thc- Council rose till 7.30 p.m.
on August 3.
House of Assembly
Thirtr-fonr now bills, or thereabouts,
were introduced in thc'House of Assembly
yesterday, «n i were read a first limo, tho .
second readings being made orders ol the
day for next week.
A supply bill for £754,422, providing
supply for.six months, was brought in by
the lAclinfr Treasurer (Hon. J. Ailan Guy),
and passed all otages.
The debate on thc Address-ui-Hoply was,
concluded.
Mr. P. KcHy was jippoinlod to serve
on thc Parliamentary Standing Committee
on Public Works in place of Mr. J. A.
Hurst (rciigucl).
Tho Chief Secretary (Hon. J. Allan
Guy) moved thc second reading of a hill
lo legalise marriaso between persons of
certain relationships, including niece» hy
marriage being involved, and thc hill pass-
ed ail Mages.
A machinery biri to amend thc Railway
Service Appeal Board Act, 1017, WM
brought in by the Minister for Railways
(Hon J. Allan Guy), and was agreed to,
as was a bill, the second reading of which
was moved by the Attorney-General (Hon.
A. G. Ogilvie), to amend thc Motor Ve-
hicles Tax Act.
The Chief Secretary secured tht passing
of a resolution (which was ordered to he
transmitted t;i thc Legislative Council for .
its concurrence), praying thc Governor to
oxtend the time for the completion of the
main railway to be built by thc East Coast
Development Co., until December 31, 1328.
A bill was introduced by thc Minister
for Lands and Works (Hon. J. Belton) to
give effect to a recommendation from th«
Governor that £14,300 bc appropriated for
the execution of public works and for
other purposes, and was read a third lime.
A Select Committee was appointed lo in-
quire into tile hours and working condi-
tions of employees of the Mental Diseases
Hospital.
Tho House adjourned till 2.30 this after- ,
noon, thc Acting Premier stating that i
after the sitting thc House would adjourn i
till August 10.
