CAPTAIN FAIRCHILD KILLED.
Wellington, July 4.
Captain Fairchild of the steamer Tutanekai,
was accidentally killed to-day. An iron
shackle at the masthead snapped causing the
whole of the fear to fall on deck and to strike
the captain on the head. Captain Faircbild
was one of the oldest captains in the colonies, j
and his death has caused universal regret.
WELLINGTON. July 4.
The brigaatine Aratpen, which was driven
ashore at Whangamata by an easterly gale, has
been floated.
Mr. H. J. Taperell has resigned the editor
ship of the New Zealand Times.
