IRISH FREE STATE.
BUDGET SURPRISES.
Surplus of £1,202,000.
INCOME TAX REDUCTION.
DUBLIN, Wednesday. — The Irish
Free State Budget created a surprise
owing to the surplus of £1,202,000.
Taxation is limited to £560,000, while
£640,000 is to the public services. A
reduction of sixpence in the pound in
income tax accounts for £250,000 and a
reduction of the tea duty by 4d. a lb.
for £290,000. Republican Army pensions
absorb £180,000; relief grants £150,000;
housing £60,000; and widows' and or
phans' pensions £250,000.
An extra rebate on home-grown to
bacco of £9 is given.
New Customs duties will yield £150,- j
000 next year.
Revenue is estimated at £28,972,000, j
and expenditure at £36,067,000, while |
£7212 will be borrowed.
Mr. Sean McEntee (Minister for Fi
nance) declared that the Irish Free
State was stronger financially than
when the Government took office.
The Free State Budget exempts out
door sports from the entertainment
tax and increases the tax oh imported
newspapers.
