SHEEP PROBLEMS.
The sheep problems of the west are
difficult of solution. Nearly everywhere
feed is abundant, but stocking up is a
costlv business with the present price
of sheep and the scarcity of acceptable
breeding lines. It is reported that New
South Wales studs have sold out of
flock rams, and Queensland studs have
orders to their full capacity. On the
Darling Downs many properties are
carrying double their usual numbers,
so generous is the season, and many
farmers have been buying small drafts
of store cattle at £3/5/- a head for fat
tening. In the west, the country is re
sponding rather slowly to the splendid
season, and that revives the anxiety
as to the eating out and drought ef
fects on the Mitchell and Flinders
grasses. The greater part of the west
ern country needs a run of good sea
sons with light stocking to make a real
recovery. Mr. William Naughton, of
Melbourne, has completed the pur
chase of Saxby Downs, but the price
has not been divulged. It is a fine sta
tion property and capable of further
development. The expectation is that
part of it will be devoted to sheep.
A COOL SUMMER DRINK.— A de
lightful driffic which is at once an
effective thirst quencher and an aid
to good health may be made thus: Add
a slice of lemon to a tumbler of iced
water and stir well. Then add one tea-
spoonful of Noble's Special Efferves
cing Saline (a compound vegetable
salt), and drink during effervescence.
This pleasant summer drink supplies
the body at the same time with essen
tial vitamins and cooling, mildly laxa
tive chemicals. It dispels hot weather
skin eruptions and reduces burden
some fat. W. A. Noble and Sinnamon,
