CLOTHING PRICES
MAY BE REDUCTION
Government Investigation
MELBOURNE, Tuesday.— A
drop in clothing prices as a result
of Government Investigation of
manufacturing and distributing
costs was mncea to-aay ay me
Commissioner of Prices (Professor
Copland). He was commenting on
a published statement that there
had been a 70 per cent, increase
In retail clothing costs. Professor
Copland said that searching In
vestigation had already been made
into both manufacturing and dis
tributing costs of clothing and a
check had been administered to
rising prices. When action had
been taken to bring the manufac
turers' margin under some sort of
control as distribution margins, It
might well be that not only would
a check to rising prices be main
tained, but that the prices move
ment might be put Into reverse
gear.
