ALLEGED ASSAULT.
CONSTABLE SUMMONED.

l’Hcc. JJ.P,, the case was continued in
wJiicli James Griffiths. a carter, pro
ceeded against Constable .Fegan on a
charge of assaulting him in the police
court yard on t3»c afternoon of July 3U,
Mr. P. J. O’Shea. appeared for the com
plainant, and Mr. W. J. M'Grath for the
defendant. *
Further evidence was given by Ralph
Amge-Jokmfcn. a reporter, who stated
that on the anernoon in question’ whilst
in Use deposition dories' office, he saw
the' defendant and another constable
bringing1 Griffiths down tlic police court
yard. Just- before they reached the
watciiiiouse door Fegan struck Griffiths a
severe, blow in the face, and he sunk
down to the ground. Fegan struck him
twice again in the face whilst ho was
down. The complainant "did not appear

Witness, was cross-examined at consider*
able length by Mr. McGrath, and said
that Griffiths appeared to be sober. Ho
was very white and looked os if he was
about to faint ‘just before Fegan struck

On the application of Mr. O’Shea the
further hearing of the ease was adjourned
until October 13/ in order that the com
plainant, who is at ' present serving
sentence of two- months’ imprisonment for
assaulting Constable'Fegan, might be able
to attend.
