PUBLIC EDUCATION.
TO THE EDITOR.
Sir—Your correspondent, who asks for 'some
little proof of the fact" that public aid to public
education has been successful, is probably one
of the few who would require further proof of
such generally-admitted facts as —
" It is for want of breath
That ordinary moitals die.''
The late election meetings in this eoleny have
proved that many of our legislators are educa
tiouUlj 1=..21-i£nt ; but what will they be if a
majority of tho rising generation of voters do
not learn to read and write, and to think for
themselves on such subjects as the voluntary
principles " of " a volunteer? "
