AGL UC.
MARCH cOOPErmON.
Members of the W.A. Angling Club
held .their monthly competition outside
the moles at Fremantle last Sunday.
Eighteen, members participated, and as
fish were fairly plentiful, although
small in size, a pleasant outming resulted.
A light breeze was blowing from the south
west in the morning, and most of the
boats headed for the coral reefs on the
lee side of the north mole, where they re
mained comparatively sheltered throughout
the day. Towards the afternoon the wind
freshened up considerably and interfered
with fishing operations materially. Skip
jack, mackerel, whiting, garfish, hbarring,
silver bream. flathead, and gurnard were
all in evidence. large fish such aq schoap
per groper, and jewfish being conspicu
ously absent. Small fry were extremely
plentiful, and proved a veritable pest the
bait being sucked off the hooks with ex
asperating persistency. At the close of
proceedings all fish submitted to the judge
were carefully weighed and anything under
the size stipulated by the club rules was
rejected. First prize, a valuable trophy
presented by Bartleet and Sons, of Eng
land, was secured by Mr. W. M. Ctrse
with a nice basket of assorted fish; second
prize, awarded by. Mr. Phil. Matson, going
to E. Woodford, the club prize being an
nexed by A. C. Burges. Others near the
prize winners were H. Lodge. H; Dean, and
J. Johnston. The boats were towed home
by a launch and arrangements were made
fo' another competition on April 10.
