SUMMER SPORTS
Will be Curtailed
SHIELD CRICKET AFFECTED
BRISBANE, Monday.— All summer
sports in Queensland will be curtailed
during the war and it is anticipated
that many of the State and major
State competitions will be suspended
because of competitors being called up
for national service. Following tho
precedent established In 1914-18, racing
probably will be curtailed if war con
tinues.
Although all sporting organisations
Will carry on with their association fix
tures some officials thought to-day
that some restrictions might be im
posed as the war progressed.
The Queensland Cricket Association's
club season will open on September
28 but the Interstate conference
scheduled for September 15 at which
the Sheffield Shield programme will be
considered may be cancelled, according
to tlie president of the Queensland
Cricket Association .(Mr. Hutcheon).
The cancellation of the 1939-40 Shef
field Shield programme will be dis
cussed by the executive of the Queens
land Cricket Association to-morrow
night.
