MIRIAM- VALE.
PICNIC RACE MEETING. — The
Miriam Vale Amateur Picnic Race
Club held their annual ' meeting on
their old and picturesque Harivelpl.
race course on Monday last. Nature
provided, its quota to' the day's pleas
ure as the' day was fine, and the giant
overhanging scrub trees were fanned
throughout the day by a delightful
breeze. Race : enthusiasts assenibled
on ' the course in large numbers, and
were entertained throughout the day,
by a standard of racing that was
highly appreciated by all, the finishes
in most cases were closely contested.
That good old sport from over the
range in the person of Mr. W. O'Sing
proved to be the biggest stake win
ner, carrying off the double with
Walmesley Lad, a.' brilliant and very
game galloper, being very nicely
handled by the Calliope star jockey,
Mr. J; Lindley, who divided the rid
ing honours" 'of the 'meeting with our
popular horseman, Mr. .1. O'Connor,
with three wins each. Mr. W. O'Sing
was. again seen tbi advantage in the
jacket, of silk, and as he celebrated
his 03rd year the! day before, scribe
wonders how this compares with l!ie
noted Melbourne jockey, Bobby
Lewis, who has enjoyed his, 03rd
year, and still going strong. Another
veteran rider who done well at the
meeting, gaining, rounds of applause
as he won, was Plain Billy. Martin,
who has been piloting horses oh
country tracks for the last 40 years.
The committee, run , the programme
through in a most commendable man
ner. and the whole day went, througp
without a hitch. Mr. Geo. V/illson,
as President, arid Mr. J. Hay, as sec
retary,, had had. a most strenuous,
time, but carried out their respective
offices without complaint and. like
wise" the "folpwing officers: Tote

sori; clerk of course, Mr. James Cam
eron: gate-keepers, Messrs. Harrison
arid- Hancock; judge, Mr. H. A. Bur
gess, arid Mr. C. Duckhnm, of Nagoo-
riri. as starter, who gave genernj
satisfaction. As is always charac

this occasion they attended to the
jiublic's demands in their respective'
stalls during the whole ' day in a
manner that brought forth, very fav
ourable comment from those preseqt.
