HOTEL
Move To Secure
Pound Yard
For Site
At the Tumut Shire Council
meeting yesterday a letter was re
ceived from the Secretary of the
Batlow Community Centre, Mr.
D. K. Stevenson, asking the pos
sibility of securing the Pound
Yard at Batlow for the proposed
community hotel.
Councillor Quarmby said a move
ment had been on foot to endeavor
to secure a community" hotel in Bat
low for some time. It was first
necessary for a site to be secured
and then a poll taken of ratepayers
within one mile of the site. A small
block was between the pound-yard
site and Pioneer-Street, but it was
hoped to be able to secure this area
also so that the hotel would face
Pioneer-Street
Cr. Keenan said under the Act the
Tumut Shire Council would have to
be the licensee of the hotel if and
when constructed. It was proposed
that the hotel be conducted by the
Batlow organisation and all profits
would go towards the improvement
of the town of Batlow.
After further discussion it was re
solved on the motion of Crs. Roche
and Keenan to contact the Lands
Department, pointing out that the
present pound-yard was in the centre
of the town and it was desired this be
made available for the community
