The ILegislative Council met at 4.30 p.m.

REGISTATrION OF OPTICIANS.
Mr. Nicholson obtained permission to
introduce a Bill for "an Act to provide for
the registration of opticians and to regu
late the practice of optometry and for
other relative purpeoses." The Bill was rea
the first.time and the second.reading mdase:
an order of the day for the next stti~ .
BUILDING SOCOIIES BILL.
The report of the Committee on the
Building Societies Bill was adopted and
the third reading made an order of the
day for the next sitting.
CORONEES BILL.
Further consideration was grven to the
Coroners Bill in Committee. On the mo
tion of the Minister for Eiducation, a new
clause was discussed- dealing with inquesti'
on deaths from ae'idents in factories, etc..
and providing, inter alia for the attend
ance of an inspector of factories or ma
chinery at inquests, and empowering a re
presentative of the industrial union to
which the deceased belonged to examine
witnatses. Progress was reported.
Clause 39 was reconsidered on the md
tion of the Minister for Education, who
moved that for the sub-clatuse inserted on
Wednesday to stand as sub-clause 3, on -
the motion of Dr. Saw, should be inserted
the following c?nse: "'When the Comi.i
sioner of Public Health certifies in writing
that it is necessary in the interats of
public health that a post-mortem examinar
tiona siuld lib .eld on' .the deed ? of
a.iy person,, a coroner may, without hohl -
ng. an inquest, direct any medical prae-:
titiner to make a post-mortem examination"
and -to report therdon to the Commission.?

report thereon accordingly." The Minister
expliined that this had the siame effect as

agreed to. Progress was reported.
