Melbourne Races
BILLET DOUX
NOT SWEET
FOR PUNTERS
MELBOURNE, Sat.—
Punters ; received an
early setback at Caulfield
today when the two
divisions of the Glen
Eira Handicap went to
long priced winners, Car
burettor and Billet Doux,
with the latter starting
at the bigger price of the
two.
Billet Doux, a three-
vear-old filly from Lov-
xble, was having her first
start since last March,
when her form was most
mimpressive.
She outpaced the opposi
tion over the last furlong
today to easily beat Janius,
with Olympic Girl third.
It was an open betting
race, Panhua, Olympic
Girl and Souvretta disput
ing favoritism, with. Lady
Daverina and Kandy Girl
next in demand.
The other runners were
all at double-figure odds.
Panhua looked to have
every chance, only to
weaken over the last fur
long.
Apparently the filly, who
recently won two races in
a row, has had enough
racing for the time being.
Olympic Girl, as usual,
finished on strongly aftei
being a long way out of
her ground in the early
stages
Olympic Girl was in
commission for bets of
£1400 to £400 and £700 to
£200 (three times).
Panhua ran for one bet
of £1200 to £300 and Souv
retta carried one bet of
£1100 to £400 and three of
£700 to £200.
