"That tenders he itnmodiately advertised
for to cart 000 lorwls of gravel from the 'for
rensto.iny partof Hindlcy and Hundle-sf reels,
to be deliwrcd according to the directions of
the Town Surveyor."
After further discussion, Mr Alderman Pea-
cock alluded to a place in one of the streets,
where Mr Nowland's good wife met with an
accident; and another place, where they were
very nearly losing one of the worthy Council-
lors—which would have been a very serious
thing. He then moved that the Town Sur-
veyor be directed immediately to employ two
men in repairing and draining the foot-paths
at such places as might be necessary—and
particularly requested his attention to a spot
near Messrs Bunce & Thompson's.
Seconded and carried.

this murnipg-, of Mr Councillor Hirdtcye,
knowing, as Mr liinlscyu nuisi have done at
the lime, that there was only a quorum of

therefore at once put a stop to the business of
the day."
Mr Alderman Peacock seconded the motion.
Mr Alderman Lambert supported it.
Mr !liiri'«rd was sorry if Mr Uirdseye had
shewn any feeling that was not proper, but, at
the same time, thought they ou^lit to be care
ful ii'it to act invidiously. He considered it
was 100 much the habit of some member* to
allow private feeling to influence them on oc
casions of importance. He was against it in
loto himself, but they ought not to condemn
one more than another.
ARREARS OF RATES.
His Worship alluded to a clause in the Cor
poration Act authorising the enforcing of in
tcicst on arrears of rates, and giving a lien on
the real am! personal estate of the parly from

claims, excepting Crown debts.
