Mussolini's Paper Tells Sad
Story Of His Forces

LONDON, Wednesday. — "What Italy's many generals and
admirals lacked was not armament, but fighting spirit,"
declares Mussolini's new official newspaper, Corispondenza
Republicana, published in Milan.
GUMMING up Italy's war losses to
July last year, the paper says
Italy's navy lost 342 units, includ
ing 83 submarines.
It adds that most of the. 3,000,000-
ton mere'v-nt navy which existed be
fore the war disappeared.
Italy's army losses were 50,641
killed, with 203,405 missing. Navy
casualties were 3771 killed and
20,189 missing.
Italian prisoners in Allied hands
totalled 500,000.
