WARDEN'S MOTHER IS
86; STILL HEARTY
MRS. M. SMITH, mother of Cygnet's Warden (Mr.
D. M. Smith) will be 86 today. She still enjoys
good health.
Mrs. Smith came from Eng-
land with her parents, the late
Mr. and Mrs. R. Pollard, at the
age of four.
After spending her childhood
in Hobart, where her father was
a commercial traveller, she went
to the Huon, where she met and
married Mr. Mark Smith.
Mr. Smith, who developed
splendid properties at Nicholls
Rivulet and Raminea, is one of
the pioneers of cattle fattening
in the Huon. He was helped
by Mrs. Smith, who carried out
the bookkeeping.
Mr. and Mrs. Smith have
lived in the Esperance and
Cygnet municipalities most of
their lives, and now live in re-
tirement at Cygnet.
They have been married 56
years.
There are four sons, Donald,
Robert, and Eric, of Cygnet,
and Jack, who lives in New
Zealand, and a daughter, Mrs.
I. Duffy, of Melbourne.
