Topweight, Sydney's newest 18-footer, may top the League's winning list in her first
season. Her success in last Sunday's Birthday was her third, making her level with
Australia III. and The Mistake as a winner of races, and her form on the new up-river
course has been so good that she should soon add to her record.
. rrioPWEIGHT'S owners, the well-
-I- known Paddock bookmakers Fred
Empson and Stan Gordon are en
thusiastic. over their charge's pros
pects of topping the list.
Despite the fact that the craft has
been reduced to the scratch mark in
'tomorrow's handicap, they have
bright hopes of skipper Eric Parsons
piloting the craft to her fourth vic-r
tory.' '
If the task, of giving away starts
to her 14 rivals proves beyond Top-
weight" in coming handicaps, there
is another scratch— the Cock o' the
Harbor, championship— to be sailed _
early in March, which should be a
"good thing" for her.
-Tomorrow; Topweight has to con
cede <42 minutes to the last handicap
winner Gloria, and that boat is likely
to take a lot oi
beating.
Gloria was dis
qualified in the
championship but
is on such a good
mark this time
that skipper
"Chook"' Fraser
shouldn't have
any difficulty m
escaping trouble.
Although she
has yet to win
a race, Jean
went well
enough last
.. Sunday to sug-
gest prospects., Jean has an al
lowance of 5min. and should make
the most of it.
Hope, another non-winner, : is to
.have a change of . skippers, Jack
Diiees taiung over tne uner irom
veteran Wally Holmes. Briggs, a
leading 12ft. skiff pilot, is likely to
have a smart crew in support, and
may be capable of surprising.
