CN. HURDLE MUY LUCK CLASS
From "Malua"
MELBOURNE, Tues. - Opinion seems t o be growing in racing circles that the
Grand National Hurdle field will not be up to standard, in spite of an early
promise by Royal Reward, who flattered only to deceive.
Bookmakers have taken a set i
against Royal Reward, who has re- j
ceded in the betting.
Royal Reward's dramatic failure,
and the splendid first-up showing of
The Feline has put a different com-
plexion on the first leg of the rich
Flemington cross-country "double.
The Feline, who won the Hurdle
three years ago, is equal favourite
for the event this year. . ,
Llandrillo, Worrowing arid Bronze
Laddie share favouritism in the
Steeplechase.
I " One leading operator said today
that no outstanding move had
marked ante-post discussions, the
quietest for moré ' than 20 years,
. This year the National Hurdle has
a most open appearance.
Trainer A. Fullarton says S. Haag
is almost certain to be The Feline's
pilot. E. Sellers has refused the"
mount and intends to restrict his
services to the flat.
Following the mishap at Moonee
j Valley yesterday in which Glen God-
frey broke his arm, Mentone trainer.
I Don Zeally has no rider for his pair,
'Royal Reward and Bronze Laddie, j
j R. Boswell won on Royal Reward
1 at Flemington on the King's
j Birthday, and may replace God
frey.
i Fairy Fable and Tiercel are train
' ed in the same stable by J. Sing.
If the former successful jumping
rider regards Fairy Fable as a bet-
ter National proposition than the
novice Tiercel, as I rather suspect,
then J. Kennedy will ride him.
D. McCormick's powerful Epsom
stable also shelters two, likely Na-
tional fancies in Promise You arid
Scarborough Chief. .
After the Federal Hurdle at
Moonee Valley on Saturday week
there should be a liveliness in
the market and a genuine fav-
ourite set up. - . ?
Foxen will be ridden by A. Moon,
who understands the gelding.
Mr: O. R. Porter's latest buy is
bred-like a National winner. He
is by Enfield from the imported
mare Foxalder by Foxbridge's sire,
Foxlaw.
Victoria's champion hurdler
Latani has resumed active training
alt Mentone and did steady pace
work today.
Trainer R. McLaren hopes the
gelding will 'be fit enough to tackle
the National Hurdle. ...'.?>
Trainer J. Jury said today that
Tanakee would not start in the
National Steeplechase.
