INDIA'S 'FINANCES.
OPItM AND REVE'NUE.
I;ondon, March] 1.
The Earl of Crewe (Secretary of State
for India) has issued the Indian revised
Estimates foi 1910-11, showing a revenue
of £80,538,200, and an expenditure of
£77,048,900. He attributes the increase
of £2,960,300 in the opium revenue to
the unprecedented prices realised for the
drug.at the Calcutta sales. The increase
in the railway revenue is set down at
£1,175,500. The Budget Estimate for
1911-12 shows a surplus of £743,800. A
decrease of £3.330.500 is anticipated in
the opium revenue owing to fewer chests
and lower prices.
