SPORTING
ROUND-UP
(BY T.E.B.)
i
c
"LINTON" tennis singles championship
is creating remarkable
interest—attracting the young,
and surprisingly; the not so young.
It is being conducted along tournament
lines and' is a handicap
event. Nomination fee was fixed
at a "swy" a head, and the_ result
—a "winner take all" hasis-
The reason for the unusual interest,
however, is the iact that
the winner also receives a dozen
cylindrical shaped containers, filled
with a very rare amber.fluid.
Small wonder then that several
thirsty characters had the foresight
to have their young hopefuls
practising at convenient times.
FAVOURITE for the title: Leo
Morrisey. His father ("Snowy")
has promised the youngster a new
racquet if he is successful.
NOW that the district cricket
competitions have commenced, all
players will be keen to impress
selectors for inclusion in the district.
team-
DARK Horse for the aide:
Vic. Blits. Diminutive Vic. U
in great form with the bat.
In the two opening competition
round* he haa scored 33
and 39 re»pectively. Vic'»
fielding hat alao been of first
chut standard. He will be
hard to overlook if he can
maintain his present excellent
form.
BOXING is showing every
promise of booming in' Yass as
it is in nearby towns. Ted Waters
is keen to stage an open air
tournament on the Yass showground.
• However, the idea
still only in its early infancy, but
wi^i a big name attraction on the
programme the attendance should
prove to be colossal-
NORM. Connors was approached
for a match at Young to-night
on the-same programme as the
much publicised Joe Grant-Billy
Stewart bout- He declined
the" offer, but the reason for his
' decision is unknown. Jack Hassen
and "Bronco" Johnson will be
appearing in exhibition
capacities-
ALTHOUGH Fred de Belin was
•relieved of his coaching of Cootamundra
first grade footballers, he
must have made at least a few
friends in the town, because he
has decided to stay- His application
for the lease of Coota. baths
was preferred to several other
applications. Incidentally Coota.
won their fourth Group 9 compout
of five when they defeated
Wyalong last Sunday by 16
points to 13.

CURRENT racing gag:—Small
boy to father frowningly studying
the form: "Hey Dad, if a man
who milks cows is called a milkman,
what's a man who milks
