STATE PARLIAMENT
Legislative Council
Motor Car Insurance
There was a formal sitting of the
Legislative Council last night. The
PRESIDENT (Hon. W. B. Propsting)
took the chair al 7.30.
Hon. C. .T. EADY Introduced a bill to
provide for compulsory insurance of
motor vehicles, covering the liability of
persons using them for damages in case
of duath or bodily injuryi caused to any
person by their use.
The first reading was agreed to.
NOTICES OF MOTION. .
Hon. U W. FREELAND.-To ask the
Honorary Minister (Hon. A. L. Ward
law) if the revenue received from the
wages tax was kept separate in the
books of the Treasury from revenue
received from other stamp duties? If
not, would the Government take steps
to bring this about, with a view to
showing what amount was received from
this source of taxation?
Hon. T. SHIELDS.-To move that a
return bcfurnlshed of (1) the names of
all public servants who on June 30, 1930.
were in receipt of salaries of £500 and
upwards, such salaries' to include all
emoluments, it any; (2) the decreases
and Increases In such salaries and
emoluments between July 1, 1930, and
June 30 last: (3) the amount paid annu-
ally by each such public servant in
respect to his or her salary by way of
wages tax.
THE ADJOURNMENT.
The Council at 7 45 adjourned to 11
a.m. on Wednesday.
HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY
ALLEGED WAGES BOARD
BREACHES. .
The House of Assembly met yesterday
at 7.30 p.m., when the SPEAKER (Sir
John Evans) took the chair.
Replying to Mr. Mahoney, the CHIEF
SECRETARY (Hon. C. E. Janies) said
that he had no knowledge of alleged
continuous breaches of Wages Board
awards on the part of Messrs. Chever-
ton anti Gray, the contractors for the
new v> harf at Hobai t.
MAIN ROAD AT ROSS.
The MINISTER FOR LANDS AND
WORKS (Sir Walter Lee) told Mr. Bur-
bury that the ctuestion of making the
main road at Ross passable during floods
had been receiving attention for some
time, and ho had instructed the Director
of Works to prepare plans and specifi-
cations for a raised roadway. He hoped
that the work would be put through in
the summer.
MEMBERS' SEATS.
The second reading debate on the
bill to deal with the positions of mem-
bers who received advances from tile
Agricultural Bank was proceeding at an
early hour this morning.
The House adjourned till 7.30 p.m. on
Tuesday.
The ATTORNEY-GENERAL (Hun.
H. S. Baker).-To move for leave to
introduce a bill to vest portion of cer-
tain land in tho parish of Kingborough
at present held on trust as a free
burial ground in the trustees of the
property of the. Church of England 'in
Tasmania.; and to appoint new trus-
tees for the burial ground.

The House adjourned at 1.45 a.m. un-
