NON-STOP FLIGHT !
England to Australia
Sir Alan Cobham's Plan
LONDON. February 34.
The- "Daily Telegraph" states
that Sir Alan Cobham and Squad-
ron-Leader Helmore, of the Royal
Air Force, will attempt a non-stop
flight to Australia early in April.
Refuelling will be done from the
'air. Squadron-Leader Helmore has
been given special leave by the
R.A.F.
i The refuelling stations will be about
2¡500 miles apart. A study of the re-
fuelling calculations shows that a 25 per
cent, heavier commercial or military
load can be cairied by this means Re-
fuelling averts also danger whicli is at-
tached to leaving an aerodrome with
an overloaded machine. The machine
to be 'used will be fitted with special
tanks and a folding undercarriage, and
will have a speed of 135 miles an hour.
Both aviators intend to practise blind
flying, íelying entirely on their instru-
ments, before the flight is attempted.
