Poisoned Chocolates
In N.S.W. Charges
SYDNEY. — Charges against Mrs Elizabeth Smart, 40,
housekeeper, concerning alleged poisoned chocolates
are being heard in the Boorowa Police Court.
When a grazier's daughter open-i
cd a box of chocolates received by,
post, the first to take one was'
her sister's three-year-old child,
who immediately spnt it out. i
This evidence was given in court
by May Victoria (Maisie) Wright,
27, who lives with her father and
brother, Heber Clive Wright, at
Woolpack property, about 22 miles
from Boorowa. in south-west New
South Wales.
Mrs Elizabeth Smart was
charged with having attempted to
administer poison to May Victoria
Wright: with having caused poison
to be taken by Heber Clive Wright:
and with having administered
poison to Charles Norman Hamil
ton—all with intent to murder.
Police have alleged that the
chocolates were poisoned and were
posted to Miss Wright by Mrs
Smart.
Mrs Smart, It was further al
leged. used poison from the store
room at Whareora Station, where
ishe was housekeeper.

Today the station manager at
Whareora (Hamilton) said Mrs
Smart had been housekeeper at
the station for 16 years. Their re
lations had never been more than
those of employe and manager. He
had been keeping company with
Maisie Wright.
On September 1 he bought, a
bottle of win'e from a hotel and
drank from it on September 4 and
9 without being affected. On Sep
tember 22 he had another drihk
from the bottle and became ill.
