THE CONSTABLE SLATER SHOOT-<*>
ING CASE.
WARNING DREAMS.
(By Telegraph.)
Sydney, August 9.
The taking of evidence in the case against
the two men Dignam and Johnstone, for the
shooting of Constable Slater at Judge
Stephen's house, was concluded at the
Criminal Court to-day. The summing up will
take place tomorrow. A remarkable dream
was the feature of the evidence. Constable
Gallagher, who was boarding with Slater,
stated that Slater had told him the day before
the shooting that he bad had a dream, in which
be fancied that he was met and assaulted by
three men. Slater on being called in said
that he not only had the dream, but he had
been troubled with the same fancies three
nights in succession.
For the defence Margaret Tighe (Dignam's
mother), a younger brother of Dignam's and
also a man named Bourke, swore to Dignam
being at home at the time the shooting is said
to have been committed. In the case of Johnson
two witnesses swore that they met him at 12 30
o'clock on the morning of the shooting at a
point between six and seven miles distant from
Judge Stephen's house, whilst Slater it was
alleged was shot between 1.30 and 1.45 a.m.
