A horse was billed in a street aacident In
Pitt street to-day. Tbe animal shiod and ran
against the polo of an omnibus, the collision
causing such a terrible wound, extending from
the poor beast's throat to itsbelly, that it had
to be destroyed.
Archbishop Vangban is to lay tbe foundation
stone of St. Poter'e Church at Surrey Hills to
morrow.
The weather is again showery.
ADELAIDE.
There ia very little that is new in reference
to tbe Soratn since the pumps was stopped, ex
cepting that biio has filled again, and settled
down astern, Large fish havo been seen swim
ming about inside the hull, thus showing that
there are large holes for tham to get
through. The craw are still getting
out what cargo they can, and the Yatala
and Mary Miller aro taking it
to Adelaide. Tho ohoro boat engaged by tho
agents haa discontinued plying and its crow
have been paid off. There are now only the
two lighthouse-keepers loft to move
tho boot. An excursion steamer leaves Port
Adelaide to-day, and will take a largo numbor
of excursionists to the scene of tho wreok. The
Govornnent has retained Kingston and King
ston, solicitors, to represent the Crown
at the inqnir; as to tbe stranding.
The South Australian Government has
ngroed to toko part ia an intercolonial telo-
graph and post office conference,1- and will
probably bo represented by Air C. Todd,
C.M.G.
News has been received from Port D.irwin
of a very satisfactory test of augsr cane grown
at Fannie Bay.
Sir Hercules Robinson haa agreed to be

The Northern Argus gives particulars of a
very serious affair at Rivorton, Louisa Clark,
a widow, with two children, had another ohild,
which was found strangled and partia l f
burnt. The fire had also partly car su ned
the cottage. The woman who was found
much exhausted and in an almost nude state
iu tho place haB been arre ted on a cbargo oi
murder.

attempt to lift tho Sorata by means
of Shulks (sunk alongside, and pumped
out, cablee being passed under the wreck and
rouud tbo hulke. Four or five hundred tons
of cargo and other weight mast bo taken out
before this can be done. The pump3
will then be started again The reporter for
the Register has just returned from the
wreck, clad in clothes lent to him by
the lighthouse-keeper, having thrown off ;hls
own when the steam launch in whiah
he and others were was capsized. He says
that Air Wright of tho Advertiser was
so exhausted when rescued that had he bad
to go a couple of yards further he must have
sunk.
