REGATTA COUNCIL
MEETING OF THE EXECUTIVE.
A meeting of the cxecutivo committee
of the Tasmanian Regatta Council was
held on Wednesday evening at Iladley's
Hotel. The president (Mr. J. G. Turner)
was in tho chair, and there were also
present Mr. F. J. Batt (vice-president),
Messrs. J. F. Davis (Esperance), L.
Roberts (Royal Yacht Club), H. C.
Smith (Snug Beach), R. L. Tinker
(Sandy Bay), W. Ferguson (Bellerive),
and W. R. Yeates (Huon). Messrs. R.
F. Mullins and A. A. Thompson were
present by Invitation, on behalf of the
Motor Yacht Club of Tasmania.
The resignation of Mr. H. Ross, New
Norfolk, was accepted with regret, the
vacancy being filled by the appointment
of Councillor Gordon Matheson from the
same district. The appointment of
Messrs. Ikin and Thompson was an-
nounced ' as delegates from the Motor
Yacht Club.
REGATTA DATES.
A letter was received from Mr. S. \V.
Smith, bon. secretary Southport Re-
gatta Association, asking it the presi-
dent would allow under the regulations
the matter of a date for that associa-
tion's regatta to be again brough for-
ward at a later meoting of the council.
After full discussion It was decided
that the president reply to tho request
giving his reasons for not being able to
accede to it,
BUOYS AND FLAGS.
Further consideration was given to
the scheme outlined at last meeting for
uniform buoys and flags for all re-
gattas.
The president produced a plan o£ a
new and Improved buoy, 'and, on the
motion of Mr. Batt, it was decided to
have one of these constructed and test-
ed, after which, if satisfactory, a sketch
of same will be included in a sheet of
Instructions now being prepared, for the
information of all concerned as to meth-
ods of flagging and buoying courses.
A letter was received from Mr J.
Boyes, secretary Royal Yacht Club, en-
closing a communication from Mr. E P
Harrisson, in regard to the handicap,
ping of tho cruisers, nnd on the motion
of Mr. Batt it was decided to refer same
to the Hobart Regatta Association /or
its information and remarks.
On the motion of-Mr Tinker, second-
ed by Mr. Smith, it was decided to re
rommend a uniform entry fee of 2s. for
'Hughies at all regattas.
Mr. Batt moved apd Mr. Yeates sec-
onded that the uniform date of entries
for Christmas and New Year regattas
bo the second Monday in December
namely December 9. 1929
Mr. Tinker called attention to the fact
that the annual meeting of the Sandy
Bay regatta Association was to be held
on July 25 in order to make arrange-
ments, if possible, for a regatta at the
commencement of the tourist season.
MOTOR BOAT RULES.
Mr. I« J. Batt reported the progress
m.ade in preparing a provisional draft
from the rules of the Motor Yacht Club
of Tasmania consistent with the univer-
sal code of the council now in operation,
and Messrs. Ikin and Thompson, of the
Motor Yacht Club, were appointed «on
the drafting committee to assist there-
in.
