Water for Irrigation
Strong protests have been made by
landowners along the Loddon River
against that stream being used as an
j irrigation channel in summer for lands
farther north. It is contended that the
keeping of this and rivers generally at
high levels during summer is responsible
for salt troubles on adjoining land, in
that the natural annual purifying of
these areas is interfered with.
In connection with the representations
concerning the Loddon River, the chair
man of the State Rivers and Water
Supply Commission (Mr. Horsfield) has
advised that a new waterway is to be
constructed from Lake Boga to the
Woorinen main channel.
This will ensure more efficient regu
lation of irrigation water in the Loddon.
The work is to be started immediately,
with funds provided by the Unemploy
ment Council.
