£500,000 TEXTILE PLANT PROPOSED FOR
BRISBANE.
Bruce Pie Industries Ltd.
Bruce Pie Industries Ltd. have made application
to the Brisbane City Council for the rezoning of
rural land at Chermside, as an industrial and residential
area.
The Council's Works Committee has reconv
mended that this should be done and if passed by
the Council the company will, according to Mr.
Pie, make an immediate start on the construction
of a £500,000 textile factory to employ one thbU'
sand people.
The site is a fiftyacre paddock, where Mr. D.
S. J. Barker has conducted one of Brisbane's most
up'tO'date piggeries for thirty years. Speaking on
the scheme Mr. Pie said that after the factory
sites had been fixed, ninety'seven building blocks
will be available, employees of the Company to
have preference in regard to their purchase.
The first factory building would be the woollen
spinning plan, for which £60,000 of the plant
would be shipped from England next March; The
second building would be for commercial dying
and bleaching, followed by a building of 30,000
square feet for the manufacture of underwear,.
beach and sportswear.
